Garden State Basketball League
Girls 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th Grade
Rules - 2005 Season
The purpose of the league is to give young athletes in the fourth, fifth,
and sixth grades the opportunity to compete against the better players from
surrounding communities.
While each team certainly tries to win their games,
the primary objectives of this league are to develop basketball skills
and teach good sportsmanship and the importance of teamwork.
These goals will be achieved through the concerted efforts of all the players,
coaches and officials.
Remember--coaches are responsible for controlling their own fans.
League Rules will be high school rules as per NJSIAA except for the following:
-
Mandatory Substitution Rule:
To assure that all players get an opportunity to play as well as
to maintain the competitiveness of each game,
players that play in the first 4 minutes of the quarter cannot play in the
second 4 minutes of that quarter.
If a team has less than 10 players, the opposing coach can choose which
players stay on the court for the remaining 4 minutes.
This rule applies for the first 3 quarters.
There are no substitution rules for the fourth quarter.
-
No full court pressing allowed until the fourth quarter.
If a team is winning by 15 points or more,
pressing in the fourth quarter will not be allowed.
-
Teams must be comprised of players from only one town.
-
Players must be in the 4th, 5th, 6th, or 7th Grade and
cannot turn 14 before 4/1/05.
-
The referees are to be paid by the Home Team prior to the start of each gam.
Referees fees will be $40.00 each.
Two referees will be assigned to each game.
If only one referee shows up for the game, that ref is entitled
to receive $60.00 (1/2 the missing ref's pay).
Do not pay one ref double dues.
We don't want to encourage only one ref showing up for games.
-
Rosters with players name, address, grade and date of birth must be submitted
to the League Administration at the December meeting.
No team will be allowed to play until a roster has been received.
Maximum roster should be 15 girls.
-
Use of the women's ball (28.5") is mandatory.
Home Team is responsible for supplying the game ball.
In addition to being a women's ball, it should also be leather or synthetic leather.
-
All foul shots will begin from behind the foul line.
However, girls may cross over the line after the shot has been released.
Baskets made by the shooter who crosses over the line (after the shot) will be counted.
-
Forfeit time is 15 minutes past the scheduled game time.
Teams must have 5 players to start a game.
-
If there are un-sportsmanlike incidences by coaches, players or fans,
the League will place that team on probation for the remainder of the season.
A second occurrence will result in that team not being invited into the league
the next year.
